Dancer | The Matt Philip Hale Band + very special guest TBA
Dancer are a 4 piece indie rock post punk band from glasgow, formed in 2022.
Fronted by Gemma Fleet – previously of Kasms, The Wharves, Order of the Toad and Current Affairs, the group play a hyper-energised and joyous form of agile post-punk, pulling together a sound from influences such as Life Without Buildings, Elastica and Owls. Fleet’s vocals, delivered in her natural Home Counties accent, evokes a charming earthiness and lyrical wisdom that defines the group’s character.
A stripped down 3 piece instrumental band backs this distinctive voice – one that utiliSes Chris Taylor’s (Personality Toilet) inventive and expert guitar and keys trickey, Andrew Doig’s (Nightshift, Robert Sotelo) amorphous bass lines and newly inducted drummer Luke Moran’s (Buffet Lunch) rhythmically alert drum stylings.
Dancer create a warm and kinetic pop and rock sound that can flip between searing aggression and placid introspection – filtered through the lens of midwestern emo, britpop, the chiming guitar clang of louisville 90s post rock and the bouncy minimalistic new wave of Pylon.
They have released 2 eps via Glasgow’s Goldmold imprint, a debut LP on Madrid’s Meritorio Records called ’10 Songs I Hate about You’, a split LP with Portland’s Whisper Hiss on Athens,GA indie pop label HHBTM and are gearing up for an upcoming split 7″ with R.Aggs courtesy of new Glasgow project Second City Static.
West Midlands singer-songwriter, Matt Philip Hale, has stubbornly created and performed his self-styled, often lyrically-driven music, over many turbulent and unglamorous years… His new live outfit, known simply as The Matt Philip Hale Band, features MPH’s longtime collaborator and drummer Sarah “Rose of Bearwood” Fleming and recently recruited bassist Lisa Lavery. It’s a classic power-trio, built to play the stirring songs of a visionary outsider…
